Peter at the12th International Boule Tournament in Marburg

“Dear friends of Eurojumelages,
as president of Eurojumelages it is important for me to get to know you personally at regional as well as national events. Each section has different wishes and requirements for our organization. Personal contact is very important to me so that we can do justice to the wishes and concerns of the individual sections in addition to our great common goal of European international understanding.
In this way, suggestions and requests for changes can be discussed together with my Board members and incorporated into the work of Eurojumelages. The boule Tournament at Marburg was another such opportunity"..

marboule kugel 170The 12th International Boule Tournament of Eurojumelages Germany took place on 29th July 2023 in the university town of Marburg.

35 jumeleurs accepted the invitation to participate in the tournament Organized by the Marburg association of Eurojumelages Germany and they travelled from various German associations and France.

Most of the participants arrived on Friday, 28th July, which was marked by changing weather and prolonged heavy rain. Around 6:00 p.m. we all met for dinner, hoping to go for a little stroll in the city afterwards. Luck was on our side and at 8.00 p.m. the 35 participants were able to get to discover the city of St. Elisabeth without an umbrella, including the St. Elisabeth Church, which is famous beyond the region. During the town walk there were surprised faces when some participants discovered 6 heads of goats in the townscape. Enlightenment quickly followed, as it is less well known that the Brothers Grimm studied in Marburg and had already commenced their fairy tale collections there. More figures from well-known fairy tales could be discovered in the inner town area.
The weather on Saturday was warm but again unpredictable. A tent that was set up in case of inclement weather came in handy. The local boules club was on hand to support us and the balls rolled on seven lanes in "Northampton Park" at 10 a.m. Supplemented by participants from the Marburg Boule Club, 38 good-humoured and motivated players started round one with light rain, round two with bright sunshine, the third with umbrella in hand, and were quite dry on the the fourth round. The award ceremony took place afterwards. The first five participants received a selection of local products from the Marburg region as prizes.

The winners of the tournament are:

1st place Marita Schoos from Bad Breisig
2nd place Mitat Gürkan from Marburg
3rd place Ronald Dietrich from Konstanz
4th place Claudia Hoffmann from Konstanz
5th place Rosemarie Preissler from Bad Breisig

At the end of the tournament, we met at 6 p.m. with 48 jumeleurs to round off the day with a buffet in the rustic Aldi's Biergarten restaurant at the Aqua Mar (swimming pool). The participants were welcomed by the chairman Walter Kaiser. Also present were Michaela Alber as national chairwoman of Eurojumelages Germany, Peter Backes as president of Eurojumelages and Mayoress Mrs. Nadine Bernshausen as representative of the city of Marburg, who was visibly pleased that an international event was organized in her city.

The meal allowed a sporting review and the planning to also participate in 2024. The host in 2024 will be the Mulhouse/France Section, which has issued an invitation.
